Patrick Northern, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, is a lovable dad who's always joking with his wife and kids. He can always find the funny side to any situation, but last year things got serious. His career took a turn for the worse when he lost his truck-driving job. His wife, Kim, took on the role of sole breadwinner and Patrick’s confidence took a serious blow. Kim and their teen twins, Ameer and Ameera, have always looked to Patrick for direction. As Patrick lost his motivation to get off the couch, the rest of the family followed suit and the weight began to pile on.
Now Patrick is facing the grim reality of his family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. Because the family follows his lead, Kim is now on the same path. Jillian faces the daunting task of rebuilding Patrick’s confidence in one week. The problem is she finds Patrick so adorable that it’s hard to push him. Will she be able to save Patrick if she can’t bring herself to push him?
Eight Weeks Later:
Jillian met up with the Northern family on a rooftop in Downtown Nashville to see how they did while she was away. Patrick threw Kim a surprise (belated) 40+1 birthday party. With all of their family and friends gathered for the party, Patrick and Kim revealed their new looks. First out was Patrick, gleaming with pride in his dapper suit. He looked slimmed down and incredibly happy. Everyone surprised Kim when she came out — but was equally surprised to see her looking so great. She surpassed her goal by losing 41 pounds and dropping four dress sizes. Patrick also surpassed his goal by dropping 61 pounds and four shirt sizes. He went from size 52 pants down to a 44! Feeling confident — and now employed at a new job, Patrick treated us to a mini-step show with his friends. This lovable family was presented with a check for $50,000 from JillianMichaels.com to help them catch up on their finances after Patrick's job loss. Now that he's back to work, he's more determined than ever to be the leader of his family again. He can't make up for the past, but, as he said, the future is bright!

Giving Up Fried Foods:
Not only did I want Patrick to promise to give up the fried foods, I wanted to guarantee he couldn't cook theses artery-clogging foods anymore. I brought in a steam roller, and we flattened his deep-fryer pot!
