The May family, of Bakersfield, California, is a unique group of people with a strong desire for a positive change in their life. This family is in need of some serious help. Mom, Ruth, recently ended her "perfect" 30-year marriage due to her husband's infidelity. The divorce has resulted in the loss of her identity, confidence, self-worth. A mom of five, three of her five children still live with her.
Racheal and Ashley are very close in age and do everything together, including working at In-N-Out burger — where fast food has become their main source of nutrition. Ashley, the quieter of the two, believes she isn't beautiful enough for a relationship. Racheal is very loud and energetic, but uses that as a front. David, the youngest of the kids, has now been given the father role of the house. The May's need major support overcoming the divorce so they can get back on their feet.
Eight Weeks Later:
The May's decided to reveal their new looks at their family reunion. Rachael and Ashley really looked dramatically different. Both lost over 30 pounds, dropped several dress sizes and had confidence going through the roof. Ruth lost 74 pounds in total and she was a different woman. She was off of her blood pressure medicine and her cholesterol returned to normal levels — she even decided to socialize more! The entire family was presented with $50,000 to help pay for Ruth's master's degree, Rachael's nursing school, beauty school for Ashley. They were now a healthy family with healthy bodies and healthy minds to match.
Jillian Says!...
The Root of the Ruth's Issues:
“I think it was about learning the basics of communication. Learning to communicate with `I’ statements instead of ‘you’ statements and learning how to let go of the past, so you can move towards the future....Ruth was unable to grieve the past and move forward and that was indicative of her hoarding.”
What You Didn't See:
We just didn't have time to fit David's story into the show, but his body fat dropped 5 percent and we got him back on the swim team. He also received a portion of the money as the money awarded to them was for the whole family.
Future Predictions:
"This is just the beginning for them!"
