Part of a large, close knit, Cuban extended family, the Alvarez family of Hialeah Gardens, Florida have a growing problem. Their son, David Jr, is already pre-diabetic. David Jr. is only nine years old but unfortunately is already well on the way to health complications due to his weight.
David Jr. already suffers taunts at school about his size, and his angry reactions to being teased have got him into trouble. He is tired of being teased, he wants it to stop, but one of his biggest problems is his father, David Sr.
David Sr. is overweight but he fails to see that it is a problem that needs to be fixed. David Jr. idolizes his father, so Jillian needs David Sr. to admit there is a problem before she can do anything to help the family.
Six Weeks Later:
The Alvarez family gathered their relatives and friends for a yacht party in Miami so everyone could see the results of their hard work. Melissa came out first and looked beautiful in a gorgeous A-line dress that showed off her slimmed-down shape! Carmen was next and she just glowed in a money green dress that made her look like a million bucks. She’d lost 25 pounds! Next up was little David and he looked absolutely adorable. He was 25 pounds lighter and, most importantly, he was no longer pre-diabetic. David Sr. came out last. He had a jaw-dropping 54-pound weight loss despite not being cleared to work out with Jillian. He did get cleared to work out while he was on his own and hit the gym hard. He was so proud that he can be active with his son now and no longer has to take blood pressure medication. David Jr. has learned the principals of good nutrition and exercise so well that he started his own after-school exercise program for kids. He even showed the lunch lady how much grease is in the food served at their school. Jillian awarded him with a check from JillianMichaels.com to help fund David’s after-school program.

The Alvarez family's weight loss rocked, but the best part for me was little David's success. For a kid his age to lose weight and no longer be pre-diabetic is huge. It's a game changer!
Better Late Than Never!:
I got a chance to really kick David Sr.'s butt when we got in the gym six weeks later. Ah, fresh meat! You know I gave it to him too -- but he took it. So proud of him!
