What Does “Being Green” Really Mean?

I’m thrilled to be the newest member of Jillian’s Wellness Team and can’t wait to share ideas and easy ways for you to “green” your home and habits. I have been working with Jillian for the past year to help make her home as healthy as her body. Even for someone that knows a lot about health, it can be overwhelming to figure out how to “be green” and what to do in our homes to make that a reality.

My company, GreenBeanie™, has a motto that is “put on your thinking cap.” It’s a call to action to remember to be mindful in everything that we do, which is the definition of “being green.” When buying products, eating, and moving through life – it’s always important to think about your actions, how they affect you and how they affect others.

Thinking about your choices is the first step:

  • Do I need it?
  • How will it help me?
  • Is there a natural or healthier alternative?
  • How was it made?
  • What is it made of?
  • What will happen to this when I’m finished with it?
We’ll be talking here about ways that we can put on our thinking caps — and I promise to make it easy for you. My business came about as a way for me to channel my eco-anxiety. I was overwhelmed by news about environmental damage, toxic chemicals and the dangers my children would face. Would there be a planet for my children’s children? I realized that just thinking about my fears and frustrations wasn’t doing any good…so I got off my butt and started teaching others how they can make improvements in their homes and lifestyles to make them healthier and safer. You don’t have to remodel your house and travel via camel to do this; change happens one step at a time.

No need to get overwhelmed or anxious — it’s a waste of energy (which we are not a fan of)! I look forward to your thoughts, comments, questions and stories. Let’s navigate this green world together.

Best – Caroline
