Take Back Your Mailbox
Junk mail is a one of my big pet peeves. Who doesn’t get frustrated going through a pile of mail to discover that it’s all getting tossed directly in the recycling bin? Or piled on to your kitchen counter?
Would you believe that more than 8 million tons of trees are used to produce 19 billion catalogs each year, producing the emissions equivalent to 2 million cars? More than 100 billion pieces of junk mail flood mailboxes on a yearly basis — that’s more than 900 pieces per household!
Tonic Precycle and Catalog Choice are two of my favorite sources for getting rid of catalog mail. Here are more resources that will help set you free from junk mail for good:
I’m a big online shopper (who has time to go to the mall anyway?) so I don’t want to miss the catalogs from my favorite stores. But I definitely don’t need a J.Crew catalog every week! To avoid accumulating a dozen of the same catalog, simply contact the store’s online customer service and request to receive only one catalog per season. Don’t want any catalogs? Call during business hours or go to their website and search their “Privacy Policy” or “Contact Us” for directions on removing yourself from their mailing list.
