Question about Jillian workout program through website?

I have a question about the Jillian workouts that are posted in my fitness planner. There are 5 circuits and it says to do 3 sets of each exercise within each of the circuits. Now, I'm hardcore and have a personal training background...but is this a typo? Because to do 3 sets of each exercise for 5 circuits takes at least 1.5-2hrs and I know jillian is all about a hardcore workout in a short period of time. Please advise.

That's Jillian's hardcore - level 3. It takes me about 1:30 to get it done depending on the exercises of the day. The time I have available also plays into my workout.

I saw someone post before that according to her fitness coaches from the site that it should take 45 minutes to complete the entire workout. I have only ever managed to get it down to an hour and 15 minutes...and I was really moving and also reasonably fit. I think if I attempted to do it any quicker I would injure myself.

With all that said most of the time I do one of her workout dvd's because it is just too hard to find that much time during the day for me. When I can manage it is a fantastic workout though! ;)

Megalish85~ the fitness planner w/o does take me about 90 min to complete, doing all three reps per circuit; I instead also do one of the dvd's due to time allowance. On my days off I may resume her 5 circuit, but I really have been enjoying the 30 day shred and seem to be getting good results.

I started the JM program about a month ago. At first I could only do two reps and get through 3 or 4 of the circuits. I've been pushing through and I can handle doing all 5 circuits with 2 reps. It does take long and depending on how much time I have available I will do less or more. I think doing 3 reps of the 5 circuits is super long and super challenging.
Try the DVD's if your looking for a good workout with shorter time! They are awesome, my personal fave is the 30 day shred or ripped in 30. They're both 30 min excercises.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

I'll ask our fitness team if there is a general amount of time the circuits take-- an average or idea of how long.  Everyone will vary a bit, but I am happy to ask if there is a an average time and follow up on this thread.

LsmenaBee has a great suggestion about JM DVDs-- great workouts in 30 minutes!

I have been doing JM for a long time. I do the cardio parts for 30-45 sec. Instead of 1 min. That puts me at about 45-50 minutes depending on the day. I am at the maintain or lose 5 lbs. stage. But I love the intensity and how much stronger I have gotten. I had my tonsils out this summer (at age 41) and recovered quickly. I know this is because I had been doing JM so hardcore up till the day before my surgery!

Hi all,

Thanks for your patience while I asked for some additional information from our fitness team.

The circuits take about 30-45 minutes.  It can take longer than 45 minutes initially, but as you get into the swing of things, the time will get closer to 45.  Level 1 tends to go a bit quicker as the exercises are more familiar and tend to be less complex.

I hope this helps!!

There is a big difference between levels 1 and 2, and level 3.  The first two levels have 4 circuits, each containing two exercises and one minute of cardio.  Level 3 is a big jump, to 5 circuits, each containing three exercises and 2 cardio minutes.  Mathematically, doing all 4 circuits 3 times for levels 1 and 2 means doing 12 minutes of cardio and 24 exercises (10-15 reps each).  This is doable in an hour, but not in 30 minutes!  Nor should one speed through it. In all of Jillian's videos, exercises are done pretty slowly with good form.  With 5 minutes of warm-up and also of cool-down, level 1 and 2 circuits easily take an hour.  But I don't think that should scare people off.  JM's fitness program is 4 hours of circuits and 1 hour of cardio per week.  And it works!!  I loved working my way up through levels 1 and 2, which I re-did 3 times before going on to level 3.

Level 3 definitely takes longer than an hour, as it includes 30 minutes of cardio and 45 exercises (15-20 reps).  It's a terrific workout, but doing all of the circuits takes longer than an hour.  I like working out for an hour, so I usually do 2 reps of each circuit rather than 3.  The hardcore moves are really great, and I look forward to the days I have time to do all the reps of all 5 circuits.

The dvd's are great if you're pressed for time, but don't settle for 30 minute workouts when you're trying to have a good calorie deficit each day.
