The directions say to go to Account Settings and turn auto enroll off but that is not an option under Settings.

You have to call customer service to cancel the account. When I called they extended my free promotion so I could have more time to explore the site and get more familiar with it. Then they where running a special on signing up and that really helped, so that helped financially. So I didn't have to cancel just yet. It never hurts to ask for their special offers.

Tap the “App Store” icon on your device home screen 2. Tap “Featured” at the bottom left corner of your screen 3. Scroll to the bottom of the “Featured” screen 4. Tap on the “Apple ID” button 5. Tap “View Account” 6. Enter your Apple ID Password 7. Scroll down until you find the “Manage” button under the “Subscriptions” heading 8. Next to “Auto-Renewal” tap the button that says “On” 9. All emails sent to our Customer Service will receive a reply with confirmation that the account was cancelled. I've made a note of your account alias and will gladly double check to see it is cancelled. You will see a confirmation email come to your email account as soon as a customer service representative has taken action on the account. There is no need to send another email. Thank you!

Well, all I get is an automated response telling me my email address can't be found, even though I JUST used it to log in. I'm in the UK as well.
