Battling the Baby Weight
I’ve always been on the heavier side, but when I had my son in January 2008, I wound up gaining a lot more weight. After his birth, I was a stay-at-home mom for 9 months, and the pounds just kept piling on — instead of off! At my heaviest, in January 2010, I weighed 278 pounds. I knew I had to do something – I wanted to be a healthy mom to my newborn son, so I could keep up with him once he started walking. I wanted him to proud of me! A friend mentioned Jillian’s website to me, and having seen her on TV and the amazing results she produced, I thought I’d give it a try!
Taking the First Steps
I was more excited than nervous to join JillianMichaels.com. I couldn’t wait to start changing my life, but making myself exercise every day was a tough adjustment, though I kept with it. While on the program, I stuck to a 1200-calorie meal plan and used the beginner — moderate fitness plan. I was very strict with myself and followed the meal and fitness plans very closely. The meal planner combined with the Food & Fitness Journal helped me keep my diet right on track. I liked being able to log exactly what I ate on the Food & Fitness Journal — and then being able to see the calories and fat percentage. Seeing what I was actually taking into my body helped me control what I ate. On average I lost about 3-5 pounds a week! There were times I wanted to give up, but my son was my number one motivator and kept me going. I struggled, and hit a few weight-loss plateaus, but I would just make my exercise more intense or try something new to switch things up and break through the plateau. Hitting 200 pounds was a major goal, but when I reached 160/170 pounds, I was elated! I couldn’t remember a time when I was in a size smaller than a 16, and buying a size 12 pant was an amazing feeling.
New Body, New Life!
In the fall of 2011, a year and a half after my weight-loss journey started, I was down to 160 pounds. But now, two years later, I am just 5 pounds from my goal weight of 140! I can wear cute clothes and shop wherever I want, but most of all I am healthy. I love feeling my 4-year-old son wrap his arms all the way around my waist. When I first joined, I could barely do 3 miles on my recumbent bike — now I can ride 26 miles! I have never felt better and am full of energy to keep up with my son. Family members and friends frequently tell me that I should be proud of myself — and I’ve actually inspired some people to try to lose their extra weight!
