Biggest Loser Recap: Giving It All
Old team loyalties played against former Black Team member Dane last week, when former Blue Team members knocked him off. Moving on to this week, the 11 remaining contestants faced many more new experiences and shake-ups. Here's what played out for them.

Healthy Makeovers: The players went to the cooking school Chefs, Inc. in Los Angeles, where they met celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito. He went over the worst food you can eat — fast food. Revealing how many calories and how much fat were in stuffed burritos, pizza, and burgers, Rocco opened the contestants' eyes to what they had been consuming — in multiple servings a day — before they got to the Ranch. After the crash course, he gave the two teams a challenge. They had 30 minutes to create healthier — but still delicious — versions of those three types of fast food. When the new entrees were finished, Rocco gave them a taste test and estimated the calorie content, and my Black Team's dishes came out on top! For their prize, they received a dinner cooked by Rocco, and for losing the Blue Team had to do the dishes. There was an additional perk to winning the healthy cook-off: The Black Team each got to choose a silver "fortune cookie," and one of the cookies contained a paper saying that person would receive a second vote in this week's elimination. Laura was the lucky recipient.

Several Moments of Awe: Boxer Sugar Ray Leonard surprised the Blue Team at 24 Hour Fitness as they tried out a new shadow boxing workout class. The players got a good workout trying something new...and Sugar Ray was an incredible motivating force who gave them a boost in morale. Back at the Ranch, Dr. Huizenga surprised both teams in the gym. He proclaimed Mike and Tara the "king and queen of weight losers" — Mike had lost 134 pounds of fat, and Tara had lost 29 percent of her body fat! I had a sit-down with Sione to talk about his switch from the Blue Team. We cleared the air, and then I gave him the training session of his life. Unfortunately, he twisted his ankle during one move and got a Level 1 sprain...which wouldn't help during the Challenge, but luckily wasn't too bad.

Food Bank Challenge: This week, the challenge was a combination of serving a good cause and hustling to get the work done. The players first had to take donated food at a Los Angeles food bank warehouse and assemble it into a kit. Then they had to move the kits across the warehouse on a cart and put them in a truck. The first team to get 150 kits in the truck would win. Neck in neck until the end, the Black Team finally pulled ahead of the Blue Team and won. Together the teams created enough kits to feed 1,200 people for a day — such a rewarding thing to do. For their hustle, the Black Team would receive free groceries for a year from General Mills and be featured in a national campaign for Cheerios. Plus, they earned letters from home, which inspired them even more. In the spirit of generosity, Mike gave his year of groceries to Aubrey because he thought she and her five kids would get more benefit from the prize. Such a selfless act!

The Weakest Link? Throughout the week, Laura seemed to be playing the victim, even opting out of the Food Bank Challenge when someone from the Black Team had to sit out to make the teams even. (Sione had a hurt ankle, but he wasn't the one to sit out, whereas Laura, who had nothing wrong with her, did...) By the last-chance workout, I'd had enough...and even though it was arguably the meanest thing I've ever done, I decided I needed to give Laura an eye-opener. I asked her teammates who they thought the weakest link was, and they all perceived her as the weakest. It wasn't her physical strength; it was her behavior — everyone felt that she projected she couldn't do anything, even though she was strong enough to do the work. Laura needed to learn how to push and motivate herself. Later, I talked to her about want she wanted and WHY she was here. I told her she had to do the work on her own, not for anyone else, and she did own up to her behavior somewhat...it was baby steps, but we made progress.

New Rules for the Weigh-in: This week Alison pulled a complete surprise on the contestants. The Blue and Black Teams were weighing in together instead of going head-to-head. The group needed to average at least one pound of weight loss per person per day. So for instance, if someone only lost 5 pounds, another person could cover them and keep up the average by losing 9. The total loss needed was more than 77 pounds; if they reached the goal, no one would be eliminated, but if they fell short, then one person from each team would be going home. Also, for each pound lost, The Biggest Loser would give 100 extra pounds of food through Feeding America. With some players dropping more than 7 pounds, and some losing less, it all came down to Mike, who had to shed 10 pounds to keep everyone from going home...

Next Week: We'll watch Mike step on the scale and see whether he keeps everyone safe — or whether two people will face the elimination room. Tune in next Tuesday to find out the players' fate!
