Season 7, Episode 8, Part 2
Biggest Loser Recap: Black Versus Blue
As Week 8 on the Ranch continued, we settled into our new teams and everyone began to focus on that all-important weigh-in. Here's how things wrapped up.
Pop Quiz Time: After putting their bodies to the test all week, it was time for the contestants to give their brains a workout with a little pop quiz. Liz Vaccariello, editor-in-chief of Prevention magazine, came to the Ranch to try the players' knowledge about healthy living and aging. It was Black versus Blue, and each team was asked three questions:
- True or False? Switching from regular to diet soda helps you live longer.
- Which change helps you live longer: cutting fat or cutting calories?
- Which exercise is believed to help you live longer: push-ups or squats?
My Black Team answered all three correctly, while the Blue Team got just one. (Curious about the answers? See the box to the right.) As their prize, each Black Team member got a "fountain of youth" getaway to a fancy hotel in St. Augustine, Florida. Not bad for answering a few questions, eh?
Weighing In as Black and Blue: For some of the players, this week's last-chance workout was the first with their new trainer, and everybody wondered whether the change was going to do them good. At the weigh-in, Bob's Blue Team came out of the gate strong — Dane lost an amazing 13 pounds, and Kristin and Cathy pulled 10 and 14, respectively. For some, the numbers weren't as high as they'd hoped: Aubrey rolled her eyes when she found out she'd lost just 5 pounds, and Ron, still hampered by his knee injury, also managed to pull only 5. In total, the Blue Team lost 54 pounds, or 3.26 percent of their total body weight. To beat them, my team had to lose more than 50 pounds. Now remember, we had a 3-pound advantage from the 24-hour biking challenge...but at Week 8, that was still a fairly tall order. Luckily, one after another my team got up on that scale and killed it — my workhorse Tara dropped 11 pounds, Sione and Mike each dropped 10, it was 8 apiece for Filipe and Laura, and Helen came through with 7. Order up! Turns out we didn't even need that 3-pound advantage to beat the Blue Team — we lost 54 pounds on our own!
Voting With Their Heads or Their Hearts? With just one hour before they had to head to the elimination room, the Blue Team gathered to discuss who should leave the Ranch. Ron made the case that it should be Dane, who had the best support system at home, while Dane pointed out that the Blue Team needed him to keep them all above the yellow line in future weigh-ins. In the end, Bob's former teammates Ron, Kristin, and Cathy banded together to vote Dane off. Was Dane right that his team will miss him and his consistently huge losses? Time will tell. But one thing's for sure — he's doing awesome at home. First, the guy breaks a Biggest Loser record by losing 100 pounds in eight weeks (the fastest weight loss the show has seen so far), and then he goes home and runs a MARATHON — in under four hours! Let me predict right now that he'll be one to watch at the finale...
Next Week: Week 9 brings a heart-warming display of generosity to the Ranch…and then some major, no-holds-barred beatings. Tune in to NBC next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET to see what happens!
