Season 7, Episode 5
Biggest Loser Recap: Couples Once Again
Over the first five weeks of the competition, the Ranch contestants did their job keeping themselves in the game. Now, 30 days later, their six at-home counterparts were back. But were they ready to weigh in? It was time to see how much work they
really had done. Here's the rundown.
Your Progress Is Showing: When half the contestants left the Ranch back in Week 1, Alison warned them that how they did at home was really going to have an impact on both players when they came back. This week, each of the at-home contestants had to step on the scale, and whoever lost the most would win immunity for his or her team. As they weighed in one by one, it soon became clear that there had been some unrealistic expectations about how much they would actually lose at home. The Pink Team's Shanon lost 15 pounds and was upset — but it was definitely nothing to cry over! Laura had wanted to lose 40 pounds, but she lost just 7 — thankfully her Green Team partner Tara was there to snap her out of her disappointment. The Purple Team's Cathy lost 8 pounds and had a more cheerful reaction to her progress. And the Yellow Team's Aubrey lost 2 pounds — there wasn't any way to candy-coat that one...but she was back at the Ranch and needed to be ready to work. The Silver Team's Carla lost 20 pounds on her own and was thrilled. But the Blue Team's Sione fared the best at home, losing 25 pounds in 30 days. Whatever happened, his Blue Team would not be going home.
The Tie That Binds: In this week's challenge, each couple was tied together to the end of a rope that was wound around a long horizontal pipe. First, the teams had to move together to circle the pipe and unwind as much rope as they could. Then, they had to race to a distant finish line, hoping they had unraveled enough rope to allow them to cross it. The Yellow Team was in the lead, with the Blue Team close behind, when they realized they didn't have enough rope to make it. Using all their strength, they pulled on the rope to drag themselves across the finish line, winning the challenge. For their prize, Mandi and Aubrey had a choice: They could either receive $5,000 or a 2-pound advantage at the weigh-in. They had until the weigh-in to decide.
All Together Now: After a last-chance workout where Bob and I worked the contestants mercilessly hard as usual, it was time to see if the sweat and tears paid off. The Yellow Team decided to take the 2-pound advantage, but they kicked butt on their own and didn't really need it. Aubrey lost 10 pounds! Then, while the Silver Team's Carla lost 9, her partner Joelle lost nothing — and emotions definitely ran high after that. After the remaining teams put up better numbers, the Silver Team fell below the line with the Brown Team, father and son Mike and Ron. Before heading to the elimination room, it was time to plead their cases to all the couples. Carla was definitely given respect for her persistence…but Joelle was another story — even Carla had some choice words for her. In the end, the couples felt that even though Carla was more than pulling her weight, Joelle was not doing her part and was too full of excuses. Unanimously, they voted the Silver Team off the Ranch.
Back at home, Joelle and Carla weren't on speaking terms for several months because of all that took place at the Ranch. Things weren't that much friendlier when the cameras brought them back together again. The Silver Team no more, as they said, they are losing the weight individually — Joelle has lost 57 pounds and Carla has lost 87 pounds.
Next Week: It's the 100th episode of The Biggest Loser — be sure to tune in to see this major accomplishment in BL history!
