Season 7, Episode 4
Biggest Loser Recap: Bringing Them Back
Tensions were high after the last elimination, when my team voted the bigger threat out of the game despite telling Bob's team they would do otherwise. But the players soon dropped the drama and focused on the task at hand: staying alive through this weigh-in to bring their partners back to the Ranch. Who came back and who went home? Read on to find out.
A Healthier Tailgate Party: At the beginning of the week, the contestants met Alison outside under a big NFL banner, where a grill and other fixings for a tailgate party awaited them. At first, everyone thought, "Here we go, another temptation," but then Alison introduced Australian celebrity chef Curtis Stone and explained that this was a calorie-counting quiz. First, Ali and Curtis revealed three Super Bowl party classics — chicken wings with ranch dressing, chili in a bread bowl with sour cream, and seven-layer dip — and asked each contestant to write down how many calories were in each. (The answers, by the way: 991, 1,165, and 1,755, respectively — gross!) Dan, Kristin, and Helen had the best guesses, so they moved on to the second round. Curtis taught them how to make glazed chicken kebabs with rosemary as a healthy substitute for those deadly wings, and then the three players had to guess the calories in one serving. Dan came the closest to the correct answer (230 calories — how do you like those chicken wings now?), and he won two awesome prizes for his teammate Dave at home: a cooking lesson from Curtis and a two-pound pass at his next weigh-in on Campus.
An NFL-sized Challenge: For this week's challenge, the contestants met Alison on a football field, where they were paid a visit by Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner. After Kurt inspired the players with his NFL success story, Ali laid their challenge before them. Starting at one end of the field, they had to sprint up to the 20-yard line, then back. Next, they had to turn around and sprint to the 40-yard line, where a supply of footballs awaited them. Their task then was to pick up one football, come back to the end of the field, and drop it in someone else's bin. When a player racked up five footballs, he or she would be out of the game. The prize at stake was immunity — and since this weigh-in would determine which at-home players would come back to the Ranch, everybody wanted it. In the end, it came down to Helen and Joelle, and Helen narrowly beat out Joelle to take the prize and secure her daughter Shanon a spot back in the game.
The Super Bowl of Weigh-ins: At the weigh-in, Alison surprised us all by bringing the at-home players back to watch their partners decide their fate. After a happy reunion, we got down to business, and one by one the players got on the scale to see if all the work they'd done at the gym would pay off. Now I'd done my best to kill Dan that week because I felt he wasn't pushing himself as hard as he needed to. He ended up practically sweating blood for me, but turns out it wasn't enough. In the face of incredible losses from the other players (Sione: 13 pounds! Tara and Kristin: 12 apiece! Dane and Blaine: a combined 26!), his 12-pound loss just didn't cut it, and he and Dave fell below the yellow line with Mike and Ron. It was yet another killer decision for the rest of the contestants, who loved Mike and Dan like their little brothers and wanted to see them both stay. But in the end, a choice had to be made, and the majority voted to send Dan and Dave home. Both are doing amazingly well back in North Carolina, though — Dave has lost 46 pounds so far and quit smoking, and Dan has lost 101 pounds (!!) and has come off his diabetes medication. I knew these guys had the heart to do it on their own…can't wait to see what they look like at the finale!
Next Week: The remaining at-home players are back full-time, and the first thing we're going to do next week is weigh them in — be sure to tune in to see how they did at home!
