Season 7, Episode 3
Biggest Loser Recap: Trust Issues
Heading into Week 3, the contestants at the Ranch were one step closer to bringing their teammates back. This week, we saw how much each player depended on his or her teammate. The pressure was on the players at the Ranch to pull their weight and keep their team in the game. Here's what went down.
Food for Thought: Keeping an eye on the teammates who were competing at home, we saw how they struggled with food temptations. And this week, they weren't the only ones — the players on the Ranch would be tempted as well. The contestants were brought to a room where laid before them were heaping plates of unhealthy foods. Each person would have five minutes in the room with the food, deciding whether to indulge. Alison explained that each of the contestants at home had been given the exact same temptation, and that the team that ate the most calories in total would get 24 hours with their trainer in their hometown. The players were tempted by the prospect of going home and reuniting with their teammates, but they weren't told whether their partners had eaten before they had to make their own decision. I hate these food temptations because you shouldn't be eating these calories in the first place. In the end, only a few teams took the bait, but the ones who ate — but not enough to win — did unnecessary caloric damage. For instance, Mandi of the Yellow Team ate 380 calories, and the Blue Team's Sione ate close to 1,000 calories — but it didn't get them anywhere. In the end, it was the Silver Team that would be reunited in Detroit and trained by Bob there, since Carla ate 2,710 calories...seriously.
Motor City: So Bob left for Detroit with Joelle, and they had quite a meeting with Carla. It was time to explain to her what exactly was happening at the Ranch and how close Joelle kept coming to the yellow line. During the training session, Carla went off, telling Joelle in no uncertain terms that she expected more out of her. Joelle had to make the effort for both of them because if she didn't, the game was over for Carla too.
Retiring the Pills: Back on the Ranch, some of the contestants met with Dr. Huizenga to talk about their medications. At 28 years old, the Black Team's Blaine had been taking eight different medications a DAY, but he was able to come off all of them thanks to the cure he found at the Ranch: good ole healthy eating and exercise. No more medicine for his diabetes, no more cholesterol-lowering pills...and no more spending thousands of dollars for them, either. Next up was the Brown Team's Ron, who had been on 10 pills a day plus insulin but was able to come down to one pill and a fraction of the insulin. A year's worth of his former drug cocktail had cost $20,000! He was losing the weight, becoming healthy, and actually solving the problems his weight was causing rather than just covering them up.
The Big Jump: This week's challenge was a matter of concentration and timing. The contestants stood underneath a gigantic rotating "jump rope" with a Styrofoam bar at the bottom. As the bar circled around, they had to jump over it. If they didn't clear the beam and it broke, they were out. Thirty minutes into the challenge, the Black Team's Dane, Purple Team's Kristin, and Green Team's Tara were still in it, and the beam started rotating faster. After close to two hours, Dane went out, and Kristin went head-to-head with Tara. Finally, after nearly 1,030 jumps and 2 hours and 19 minutes, Kristin broke her beam. As her prize, Tara received immunity at the weigh-in.
Step on the Scale: In the last-chance workout, the Black Team's Blaine turned the tables and tried to kill ME. To make him work harder, I had him dragging me as I hung on to an exercise cord wrapped around his waist, and he pulled so hard I flew out of the door! When it was time for the weigh-in, that beating paid off — the Black Team lost 30 pounds! But of course, someone had to fall below the yellow line, and this week it was the Red Team's Damien and the Silver Team's Joelle. In the elimination room, the first four votes were for Joelle, and since some of the players had doubts about her motivation, it seemed like she was a goner. But then, the next four votes came in for Damien. It was a tie, and since Damien had the lost the lower percentage of body weight, he was the one eliminated.
Back at home, Damien and Nicole got busy taking engagement photos and getting ready for their super sexy June wedding. Nicole has lost 76 pounds, and Damien has lost 74 — they both look great and will only look hotter when we see them again!
Next Week: The couples reunite at the Ranch and have to make a heart-breaking choice that I know will make you as upset as I was.
