Season 7, Episode 2
Biggest Loser Recap: A Heart-Wrenching Week 2

It was the dreaded Week 2 — the week when historically, the contestants' bodies have all rebounded from the big losses of Week 1 and we've seen dismal numbers on the scale. This time, some of the players were able to defy the curse...but others weren't so lucky. Here's how the week shaped up.

In It for the Money? At the beginning of the week, Alison presented the players with their first temptation. Everyone stood behind a white line painted on the Ranch driveway, and at the end of it sat a limo with its door open, waiting Ali told the players that this was their chance to take a payday and leave the Ranch — she'd offer a portion of the $250,000 prize money, and the first person to step over that line would get it and a ride home. Her opening bid was $5,000, and there were no takers. Then she offered $10,000, and though the Silver Team's Joelle was tempted, still no one crossed the line. Ali's final offer was $25,000. Feeling the pull of that cold, hard cash, Joelle flirted with the line...but in the end she stayed behind it, and everyone remained in the game.

Staying Ahead of the Pack: This week's challenge was a killer race for immunity at the weigh-in. From a boat a quarter of a mile offshore, the players had to pedal kayaks to land, get their boats out of the water, and then race up a steep hill to the finish line. When the race started, the Pink Team's Helen and my Black Team's Blaine burst out of the gate and took an early lead. Not one to be left in the dust, my Green Team's Tara fought to catch up, overtaking Helen and staying right at Blaine's heels. Near the top of the hill, Tara made her move and passed Blaine to take top honors. Blaine, my Yellow Team's Mandi, and Helen crossed the finish line next to win the prize of a phone call home. For the rest of the players, the name of the game was just to stay ahead, because the last player to finish would receive a 1-pound penalty at the weigh-in. With so much more weight to carry than anyone else, my Orange Team's Daniel fell behind. But he didn't give up; with his fellow players' love and support, he finished strong.

The Scale Doesn't Lie: The contestants showed up to the weigh-in totally beat from a brutal last chance workout. (How bad was it? Bad enough to make Bob completely lose his cool with one of his players — something I have never seen him do.) It was time to see if they'd worked hard enough to shake that Week 2 curse. Tara weighed in first, since she won the challenge. Let me tell you, it was a good thing she won immunity, because she only dropped 1 pound. Dane and Blaine went next, dropping 14 and 16 pounds, respectively — we don't see those kinds of numbers in Week 2 very often! Player after player dropped more pounds than anyone expected…it was looking like a pretty good week until Joelle hit a wall with just a 2-pound loss. The White Team's Jerry, who'd had a tough week, went next, and when he only dropped one pound, my heart completely broke. He fell under the yellow line with Dan, whose 1-pound penalty did him in.

It was the worst possible scenario for the contestants, having to choose between Jerry and Dan. Both men had so much heart and so many reasons they needed to be on the Ranch. In the end, the players felt that Jerry had a better support system at home, so they voted to keep Dan in the game. Everyone was devastated to see Jerry go, but they were right that he'd do well at home — he's lost a grand total of 84 pounds so far and has kicked his diabetes. His wife Estella looks great, too — she's below 200 pounds now, and she has the energy to play with her grandkids again.

Next Week: Joelle took a lot of flak this week for not working hard enough...Tune in next week to see if she starts pulling her weight — and what her teammate Carla has to say about it.
