Season 7, Episode 15
Biggest Loser Recap: Makeover Time!

This week held surprise after surprise as the contestants reached new heights, gained new looks, visited with old friends and family, discovered a dire injury, and carried out a record-breaking weigh-in. Want the details? Here's how the week played out.

Starting Off With a Bang: Last night's episode didn't mess around — the contestants were immediately presented with their Challenge. They all stood on one side of a canyon, and in front of each of them, two cables stretched 700 feet to the other side. Their task was to cross the canyon by walking on the bottom cable, while using the top cable for support (and of course, they were hooked up to the top cable to keep them from falling if they lost their balance). Out on the cable, the contestants were 110 feet off the ground...pretty unnerving if you had a fear of heights like Mike did. Ron gave up almost immediately, going just 40 feet out. Tara lost her footing and hung from the cable for a while as she struggled to climb back on, but she finally got back on course. In fact, she picked up enough "glide" to make an awesome comeback, taking the lead from Filipe and finishing just ahead of him. It was Tara's tenth challenge win, and as her prize for this one she would be getting a $25,000 kitchen makeover and a fully restocked refrigerator. Alison then let everyone know that Tara wouldn't be the only one with a makeover. Everyone would be getting his or her own transformation because it was makeover week!

Guide to Style: The remaining seven lucky players headed to Macy's, where they were greeted by style expert Tim Gunn. They were told they would be attending a Hollywood movie premiere and needed some fresh attire. Each of them walked around the store with Tim talking about what would suit them, what they'd like to wear, and how they felt overwhelmed with the whole process of picking new outfits for their slimmer figures. Later, Tim surprised them with outfits he'd personally selected for them. Then it was time to get even more gorgeous by hitting the salon for hair cuts and coloring all around.

The Red Carpet Treatment: Fresh to death and hotter than ever, the contestants had even more surprises in store at the "Hollywood movie premiere." When the players walked out to show off their glamorous selves, their loved ones were waiting at the bottom of the staircase to greet them with tears, hugs, and kisses to congratulate them on their progress. It was especially heartbreaking for Ron's other son and Mike's brother, Max, who was upset that he was the "big one" now. Mike assured Max that he has the ability to change too, and that he'll soon lose weight because the whole family will make lifestyle changes together. On a lighter, happier note, everyone was photographed, filmed, and interviewed by OK! magazine, E!, and Access Hollywood — they were shocked to get treated like celebrities. The final surprise was that the movie premiere they were attending starred themselves — it was a Biggest Loser movie about their awe-inspiring journey to this point.

A Very Hard Road: After the players returned to the Ranch, one of mine received a crushing blow. Laura had been complaining about hip pain for a while, so we went to see Dr. Huizenga. He diagnosed Laura with a stress fracture in her hip — the most severe he'd seen in all the seasons of Biggest Loser. She wouldn't be able to perform any strenuous moves for 3 months...very hard news to take in. In fact, it was completely distressing considering how incredibly far she'd come.

Sizing Up the Competition: After a week of glam and some killer last-chance workouts (for everyone but Laura, that is), it was time to step on the scale. Mike achieved a major accomplishment when he lost 5 pounds this week, bringing his total to 145 pounds in 15 weeks and breaking the all-time record for the most weight ever lost on the show. Helen lost an incredible 7 pounds to be this week's biggest loser, which she was thrilled about after what she called a "hectic" week. When it was Laura's turn to get on the scale, she had to be carried because she couldn't put any pressure on her hip. Sadly, she gained 3 pounds...and was up for elimination with Kristin, who also fell below the yellow line.

In the end, Laura was voted off, but Alison assured her she wouldn't be going home alone; Biggest Loser doctors would be helping her to recover. Thankfully, her hip is healing and the rehabilitation is going well. She has been able to maintain her weight loss even with her injury. She's lost 77 pounds since starting on The Biggest Loser, and by the finale she wants to have lost 100 pounds.

Next Week: It's a heart-to-heart for father and son. Mike confronts his Dad about his lack of weight loss in the past and why he didn't make changes any earlier. Be sure to tune in next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC!
