The Biggest Loser Recap: Makeovers Galore
When it's down to the final five contestants, you'd think the players would be completely focused on weight loss. But this week was all about getting new looks. Bob and I certainly weren't giving the makeovers — now that would have been funny...Instead the players were flown to New York and given ultimate makeovers by hair and style experts. On top of that, they got to debut their transformations on The Tyra Banks Show. Did the time-out for makeovers interfere with their weight-loss progress? Here's what played out.
A Visit to the Big City: As I'm sure you know, New York is one of the quintessential places to go for style, and the contestants were given top-quality treatments. First they visited Stuart Hirsch Salon to get cuts and color, and then they went to shop at Macy's and got fashion advice from Christian Siriano, the winner of Project Runway, Season 4. Now that everyone was looking hot, it was on to The Tyra Banks Show to walk the catwalk. Not only did they get to show off for the audience, but also Tyra surprised the five players by bringing on a friend and family member to share the moment with them. Later the five were also surprised with $1,000 gift cards from Macy's. But then another, much less pleasant surprise was waiting for them in Times Square, where Bob and I issued a wake-up call on one of the big TV screens. We were trying to be the watchful eye to remind them they were still on The Biggest Loser and needed to keep the calorie burn going while they were in the city. The next day, Michelle and her dad went on a run in Central Park, Renee and her husband ran across the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Blue Team headed to the new 24 Hour Fitness to get in some workouts.
Hang In There: After those three days of special treatment, the contestants left New York and came back to the Ranch for the challenge. This week, it was all about having the strength to hang on: The contestants were wedged inside individual glass boxes suspended over a giant pool. The boxes were bottomless, so the players had to hold themselves in the box however they could. If they lost their grip or their feet slipped, they were in the water and out of the contest. Vicky gave up first, deciding to sit on the ledge beside the glass box instead of jumping in the water. Next to go was Heba, who just couldn't hang on any longer, and Ed eventually followed. My Black Team girls held strong, and Michelle outlasted her mom to win the challenge. As her prize, she got a two-week vacation at Fitness Ridge Resort and Spa in St. George, Utah.
It Shows on the Scale: Looking great is all well and good, but my Black Team ladies had to get their butts in gear to make sure they'd both stick around after the next two weigh-ins. Bob had the same motive as he pushed his Blue Team during the last-chance workout. When it was time for the weigh-in, the numbers on the scale were low. Vicky lost 4 pounds, Renee also lost 4 (but with a lower percentage of body weight), Michelle lost 5, and Ed lost 3. Only Heba put up a strong number, losing 7 pounds. This put Renee and Heba's husband Ed below the yellow line, and if you've been watching the Blue Team in action this season, you know what that meant. Staying loyal to their color, the Blue Team members voted off my Black Team's Renee.
Having come to the Ranch at 267 pounds, Renee's now at 172 back at home in Texas — that's a total of 95 pounds lost! She looks great and is doing public speaking to inspire others to lose weight. She even leads a fitness group at her job. So proud of her!
Next Week: It will be the players' last-chance weigh-in before the finale that will crown the title of Biggest Loser. Who will the final three be? Well, there's a catch — next week, America will be deciding who stays and who goes...so you better tune in next week and cast your vote!
